Mandatory License & Advanced Licensee Training Courses Now available through Barringtons

On 1 September 2018, the NSW Liquor Regulation 2008 was replaced with the NSW Liquor Regulation 2018. This legislative change means that the club industry is required to obtain mandatory licensee training through Liquor & Gaming NSW approved courses.

The Licensee and Advanced Licensee training courses are for licensees, approved managers and club secretaries, so they are better prepared for the challenges of operating a venue, while ensuring a vibrant and safe hospitality environment. Advanced Licensee training is an additional course for those who may operate a business in a higher risk environment, such as venues authorised to trade after midnight.

Most licensees, approved managers and club secretaries will need to complete one or both courses. The Liquor & Gaming new training tool will confirm what training you need to complete.

If you held a liquor license prior to 1 September 2018, you need to complete training from 1 April 2019 onwards, aligned to the renewal of your existing NSW competency card.

If you were granted a new liquor license from 1 September 2018, you have until 1 April 2019 to complete training.

From 1 April 2019, new license applicants will need to complete the training before making an application, and transfer applicants will need to complete the training before the ‘confirmation’ of the license transfer.

Barringtons have been actively involved in the co-design of this course content and have been approved to deliver this training which includes: an overview of liquor regulation in NSW; compliance and enforcement; managing your liquor license; your responsibilities to manage alcohol related harm and; best practice strategies to prevent alcohol related harm.

A list of frequently asked questions and their answers has been prepared by Barringtons and may be accessed here.
